Winter can look empty—bare trees, growth disappeared underground, a quieter natural world. Yet winter isn't lifeless. It is storing its strength; beneath frozen ground, the potential for spring remains. This is the nature of Water.
Water is associated with our reserves, will, endurance, courage, and the wisdom to recognize when to act and when to become still. Its emotion is fear—not inherently a weakness, but a protector that alerts us to danger and helps us recognize our limits. Courage doesn't require the absence of fear; it allows us to respond wisely in its presence.
Kidney — Controller of Water
The Kidney represents some of our deepest reserves, like a mountain lake fed by water gathered over time. It reminds us that vitality is something to respect—there are times to expend our energy and times to protect it.
Bladder — Storage of Water
Water must be contained, but it must also be able to move. The Bladder reflects this relationship between holding and flowing—it can become still, gather depth, and when movement is needed, it flows.
